Scholarships and Bursaries

There are a variety of scholarships and bursaries available for students, below are a few examples.  Please reach out to your child's school counselor and/or school based Indigenous Education team or the Indigenous Department office at  604-794-5553 ext 2227.

1. Indigenous Education Advisory Bursary

  • **Note - Amount Subject to change - amount can be up to $500.00.
  • Grade 12 Aboriginal student who is eligible for graduation and proceeding to an accredited post secondary educational institution. Attained a minimum "C+ " average for the first two reporting periods (1st Semester) in grade 12. Demonstrated good service, citizenship, personal determination and work ethic in school and/or community. Demonstrated a need for financial assistance.

2. Chilliwack Metis Association Bursary

$500.00

Eligibility Requirements

Any Grade 12 student who meets all of the following critieria is eligible to apply.

The eligible student:

  • has self-identified being of Metis descent.
  • is eligible for graduation.
  • is proceeding to an accredited post-secondary educational institution.
  • has attained a min. 'C+' average for the first two reporting periods (first semester)  in Grade 12.
  • demonstrated good service, citizenship, personal determination and work ethic in school and/or community
  • demonstrate a need for financial assistance. (External Scholarship - School Mail In)


3. Indigenous Education Gwen Point Award

  • *Note - $1,000.00 - The number of bursaries awarded and the amount of each bursary is subject to change.
  • Grade 12 Indigenous student who is eligible for graduation and proceeding to an accredited postsecondary educational institution. Attained a min. C+ average for the first two reporting periods (1st Semester) in grade 12. Candidates must have demonstrated good service, citizenship, personal determination and work ethic in the school and/or community. Candidates must provide a letter to describe their cultural involvement and/or service in this community. (This may include volunteer work, working with Elders, community sports, etc.) Demonstrate a need for financial assistance.

4. Sto:lo Nation First Nations Award

$250.00

  • Each year Sto:lo Nation will offer a bursary to any First Nation student with the achievement of B or higher grade point average. Amount, number and guidelines of bursaries subject to change without notice. Student must enroll within ONE year to a post-secondary institute on a full time basis or the award will be forfeited. Three letters of reference supporting your application and a personal letter outlining your career goals, aspirations and involvement with First Nation's community must be included with your application.
